Welcome to MindBucket. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the MindBucket application and website at mindbucket.net (the "Service"), operated by Research Maestro Limited Liability Company (doing business as Blue Compass Software, LLC) ("we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
The Service is provided by Research Maestro Limited Liability Company, a limited liability company organized under the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States. You can contact us at sbersey@bluecompasssoftware.com.
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to use the Service. If you are under 18, you may use the Service only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements.
To use the Service you must create an account using a valid email address. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it current. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account.
MindBucket is a web-based mind-mapping tool that lets you create, organize, edit, and store visual diagrams ("Diagrams"), along with attachments such as notes, files, checklists, and transcribed audio that you associate with your Diagrams ("Content"). We may add, modify, or remove features over time.
Individual file attachments are subject to a maximum size limit (currently 24 MB per file). Files larger than this limit cannot be uploaded to the Service.
Payments for the Pro subscription are processed by Stripe, which acts as our Merchant of Record. Stripe handles payment processing, billing, invoicing, fraud prevention, and the collection and remittance of applicable sales tax/VAT on our behalf. Your subscription to the Service is provided by us; Stripe processes the transaction, and Stripe's terms also apply to that payment.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current price each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date. You authorize Stripe to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.
Price changes. We may change our subscription prices from time to time. For any active paid subscription, we will not increase the price by more than four percent (4%) in any calendar year. We will notify you by email before any price increase takes effect, and any increase will apply beginning with your next billing period after that notice. If you do not wish to continue at the new price, you may cancel at any time before it takes effect; your subscription will remain active through the end of your current paid period and will not renew. Prices offered to new subscribers may differ from prices previously offered.
You may cancel your Pro subscription at any time through the billing portal accessible within the app. When you cancel, your subscription remains active until the end of the current paid billing period, after which it will not renew and your account will revert to free (view-only) access. See our Refund Policy for details on refunds.
You may delete your account at any time from within the app. Deleting your account permanently removes your Diagrams, attachments, and account data, and immediately cancels any active subscription without refund for the remaining period. Deletion is irreversible. You may also request deletion by contacting us at sbersey@bluecompasssoftware.com.
You retain all ownership rights to the Content you create and store in the Service. You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display your Content solely as necessary to provide the Service to you. We do not claim ownership of your Content and we do not sell it. You are solely responsible for your Content and for ensuring you have the right to store and use it.

The Service, including its software, design, and branding, is owned by Research Maestro Limited Liability Company and is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right to our trademarks, logos, or other brand features.
We strive to keep the Service available and reliable, but we provide it on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that Content will never be lost. We recommend keeping your own backups of important Content.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Security. We take reasonable measures to protect your data and have designed MindBucket with security in mind. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and no system can be guaranteed to be impenetrable against every possible intrusion. You use the Service at your own risk, and you should avoid storing highly sensitive information — such as passwords, financial account details, health information, or government-issued identification numbers — in your Content.
Private Vault (attachment encryption). MindBucket lets you protect your attachments with a Private Vault. When enabled, your attachment file contents are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded, using an encryption password that you create together with a one-time recovery key. Your encryption password and recovery key are known only to you: they are never sent to us, we do not store them, and we cannot recover, reset, or access them. This encryption password is separate from your login password, so resetting your login password does not affect your encrypted attachments. If you lose BOTH your encryption password and your recovery key, your encrypted attachments cannot be decrypted or recovered by anyone, including us, and will be permanently lost. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Research Maestro Limited Liability Company is not responsible for any data lost in this way. Please note that only attachment file contents are encrypted — file names, map names, node labels, and other text are not encrypted — so you should not place sensitive information in names or labels.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Research Maestro Limited Liability Company and its members, officers, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or revenue, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
Without limiting the foregoing, we are not responsible or liable for any loss of, or inability to access, your data (including encrypted attachments) resulting from (a) your loss of, or failure to keep, your Private Vault encryption password and/or recovery key, or (b) any act or omission of a third-party service provider on which the Service relies — including any such provider losing data, or suspending, revoking, or terminating our access to its services.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Research Maestro Limited Liability Company from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your Content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in New Jersey, except where prohibited by applicable law.
